5 Details to Include in Your CNC Machining Quote Request
We understand that getting quotes for CNC machining services can be frustrating for many buyers. If you don’t include all the relevant information up front, you risk drawing out the process or even receiving an inaccurate estimate.
So, we want to make sure requesting a quote from Area Tool & Manufacturing, Inc. is the easiest part of your day.
Buyers Love Our Advanced Quoting Software
Requesting a quote from our precision machine shop is as easy as heading to this webpage and filling in the secure form with your contact information, requested delivery date, project details, part files, and other relevant information.
We use Paperless Parts quoting software, which provides a quoting experience many buyers have told us they love. You’ll be able to open up your quote and see your physical part (instead of just a part number). This visual indicator can be incredibly helpful when you’re dealing with thousands of parts.
What to Include in Your CNC Machining Quote Request
To ensure that we can provide the most fast and accurate quotes, we ask that you include the following information. Feel free to bookmark this page so you can return to it as needed.
1. STEP file and PDF
Many buyers make the mistake of including only the STEP file in their quote requests. While STEP files are indeed useful to precision machine shops, PDFs are also critical to have.
The PDF includes important callouts for tolerances, materials, heat treatment, surface finish, engraving, finishing, packaging, and more. Without that information, it’s nearly impossible to provide an accurate quote.
2. Quantity
Believe it or not, we receive many quote requests that don’t mention anything about the required part quantity. Quantity is the primary driving factor for cost and lead time, so we need to have this information up front.
3. Desired lead time
Do you need your parts ASAP? Our intentionally small precision machine shop can accommodate even the shortest lead times, so be sure to let us know. On the other hand, it’s also helpful to know if you aren’t in a rush to receive your parts.
4. Usage
Here’s a scenario we often encounter: A buyer will request a quote for, say, ten pieces. Then, they’ll request a quote for another ten of those pieces a month later, and again in another month. We’re happy to accommodate this approach, but there’s an alternative approach that could save you money.
Let’s say you know in advance that your annual usage is 100 pieces. Tell us up front! We can likely get you better lot pricing by quoting you, say, 25-piece lots delivered once per quarter instead of making ten pieces each month via separate POs.
5. Application
If you’re working on a research and development project that has you looking to improve an existing part, we encourage you to share details about the application so we can make recommendations based on your goals. For instance, we may suggest a specific plating to help you achieve corrosion resistance and longevity.
